Alternative source of film finance for indie filmmakers

Women in Film and Television recently hosted a talk on a new method for financing films.

The speaker was Zakiya Powell whose company, PLAZA Films Limited, is behind an innovative approach helping independent filmmakers to obtain finance without completely forsaking creative control or their residual rights. PLAZA is open to any independent producer seeking film finance provided they are able to meet certain criteria.

If the producer's film is assessed as being viable for financing, PLAZA presents it on a multinational, multimedia, subscriber information system via CityScreen - an exclusive contracted supplier to Reuters whose system reaches hundreds of thousands of dealers, brokers and institutions around the world.

Due to financial regulations, PLAZA cannot market individual films directly on the screens. Instead it markets PLAZA Films as a company with attractive film investment opportunities and directs interested investors to 'a detailed listing of film projects at the PLAZA restricted website.'......
